Before the Show

You will be receiving a written confirmation of the plans, dates and times you made in scheduling your party.
Please sign & date the performer copy of the confirmation and return it to Randy as soon as possible, along with your deposit.  In order to secure the date & time you requested, the performance agreement & deposit must be received within three weeks after you receive it.

About 1 week before the show, Randy will need an updated guest list, if possible. You can email this to him at rsnedden@closeupmagic.org if you prefer.

Finally, Randy will be contacting you by telephone a few days before the show just to confirm the details one last time and to assure you he will be there and be on time.  If you have any last minute questions, please ask away!

Set Up

Seating Arrangement Chart

Plan on Randy arriving approximately 1 hour or so before showtime. He will need about 1 hour to move his equipment and set up for the show and will need to do so away from anyone who will be in attendance.  A good rule of thumb on accomodating the space needed for the show is about 15' in front of the performance area and several steps to either side. Please see my Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.  The chart shows a preferable seating arrangement – accommodations can be made if your area is small.

Randy may request adjustment of the seating arrangements and may wish to decorate the performance area with “Magic Zone” tape (Similar to Police Line: Do Not Cross tape) prior to the performance.
It is preferable to have the children in another room during set up time.  We recommend you involve the children in an outside activity (weather permitting) or a party game of some sort.  Request a free party planner for a few ideas!

We regret that Randy cannot delay the start of the show to await tardy guests.  In order to treat all of his clients fairly, it is essential that Randy be on time for all performances. He plans party times and travel time to allow for this and, as such, any delays would be a disservice to his other clients.

Randy will need access to an grounded electrical outlet.  We will provide an extension cord to facilitate this.  Some of the illusions he performs may involve playing music CD's or Tape Cassettes.

During the Performance

For the most part, you can relax during the performance.  Randy will keep the kids under control and busy, so you need not worry.  Please note parents with children aged four and under should sit with their children since younger children are often fidgety or have a lapse of attention.

If there happens to be a problem with one of the children becoming unruly or overly excited, we ask that you speak with him or her quietly, or in another room, so as not to spoil the show for the other children.

Please feel free to take as many photos as you'd like during the performance.  In fact, we encourage you to take photos! Those small momentos will help to make your event more memorable and revered.

In addition, we post show pictures on this website as a way of helping everyone to remember your event.  Please feel free to submit digital photos to magicpics@closeupmagic.org and we'll get them posted as soon as possible for you.

After the Show

Once the performance concludes, Randy likes to parade the children to the table for you and lead them in singing Happy Birthday to your child.

At this time, he will pass out goodie bags and magician's assistant certificates, or any other giveaway items agreed upon at booking.  Randy will present gift items such as magic sets at this time as well, leaving you free to get the cake cut without having to worry about the children.

Once the performance concludes, Randy will tear down his equipment as quickly and as quietly as possible so you can continue with your event.  Once everything is packed up and out of the way, Randy will need to meet with you briefly prior to departing.
