School Themes, Fun Days & Carnivals
School theme shows are performed on stage at your school and combine audience participation, magic, comedy, and storytelling! They are teaching sessions which use magic and comedy as a visual aide to help kids remember the importance of what is being taught. Each show includes giveaways for the students to take home that also help to reinforce the program’s points. It’s important to understand these shows are approached from an educational standpoint rather than from an entertainment one. While each theme uses audience participation, comedy, magic and storytelling just like their entertainment show counterpart, there is slightly less of each of these things since it is more important the students retain the important message behind each theme. Randy’s school shows are pre-themed, but can be customized to accommodate the school’s current hot topics if you so desire. Currently, Randy’s top themes are “DRUGBUSTERS ... Who Ya Gonna Call?”, “Zip It! - Don’t Talk to Strangers!”, and “It’s in the Book! - The Power of Reading!”.
Drugbusters addresses the problems kids are experiencing today; including peers and peer pressure, learning to be a leader and not a follower, learning what some of the problems are that drug use can lead to, and who is there to turn to when help is needed. Drugbusters guides the children through an easy-to-understand learning process by following tenets in an easily remembered acronym: LASSO – Lead, Avoid, Say Something Out loud. Each point of the theme is illustrated with compelling magic and comedy to help make recollection easier.
Zip It is a powerful and inspiring show demonstrating the dangers possible when confronted by strangers. Zip It helps children to understand who strangers are and that they (strangers) can appear in many forms. The Zip It program also takes a look at some of the possible dangers represented in contact with strangers; and includes examples of things strangers may try to do. Finally, Zip It stresses ways children can help to keep themselves safe from strangers using a simple acronym that is repeated throughout the show and easy for kids to remember: STORM. Storm means - Stay in Groups • Tell an Adult • Observe Curfews • Run Away • Make Noise
Some of the library etiquette example are: Clean Hands • Reporting “Sick” Books • Sharing Library Resources, and many others. It’s in the Book, like its counterparts, uses easy-to-remember acronyms to help the students remember the important points they’ve learned.
Randy uses his unique brand of hilarious comedy and amazing magic to illustrate each point in all the themes, making it ultimately much easier for your students to understand the topics. More importantly, the students will all go home having learned an invaluable lesson that will remain imprinted on their minds, and will enable them to act upon what they’ve learned when the situation arises. If
there are other themes you are interested in having built into your show,
please contact Randy to discuss them.
The watch word for these shows is fun! They are geared to entertain and enthuse the students with compelling magic, outrageous comedy and through the weaving of spellbinding stories. Entertainment shows are typically slightly longer than their themed counterparts and do not address a specific topic. Also, there is much more audience participation with these shows since there is more time and more freedom without the constraints of a theme’s tenets. This is the perfect opportunity to get
your students (and teachers, too!) involved. Fun Day performances
can accommodate audiences that are quite large – up to about
400 people.
School Carnivals • Midways • Fairs Randy can perform for your school in strolling or “walk-around” style to entertain your students for school carnivals, fairs, or other activities when it’s not practical to have a stage- or parlor-type show. Strolling magic is performed for small groups or individuals while meandering throughout your event facility or area. The power of strolling magic is in its intimacy since it is magic that happens right in your guests’ hands!
Finally, Randy also makes himself available as a private speaker and, using magic to illustrate his points, can perform in your individual classrooms utilizing one of the school’s current “hot topics” as a theme. Please call (570) 345-0575 for availability and pricing. Ask about Randy’s “School Double” package, which can save you up to $100.00!
